Whenever the NBA trade deadline nears, it guarantees exciting rumors, last-minute decisions, and one team trying to make the most of their situation. With the deadline (February 10) being only a week away, there’s always more buzz around certain teams and their possible trade options. This time, with a declining 2021-22 season performance-wise, the Washington Wizards might just be the most active team around the trade deadline.
Though Bradley Beal’s status with the team might be questioned by a few, the focus might be elsewhere.
According to reports, Domantas Sabonis is the exciting new trade option for Washington.

Are the Washington Wizards eying Domantas Sabonis?
Even though the Wizards might be considering Sabonis as an option, they might have to part with a few assets from their end. However, it could be a gamble that gives the team the edge they need.
Their impressive 10-3 start has then boiled down to a 24-27 win-loss record. Currently placed 11th, they are even out of the play-in equation. What surely seemed to be a playoff campaign has now fizzled out, and Bradley Beal seems to require another partner.
While many believe the Wizards should have done better this season, Sabonis’ arrival might actually help uplift their season. Additionally, Jerami Grant is also someone they are reportedly interested in.
Who can be traded for Sabonis?
These trades will not come in cheap and will be based on the Wizards’ confidence in Beal re-signing. Giving up young talent or other assets for Sabonis or Grant sounds wise only if Beal is ready to commit to the franchise once again.
Washington might have to give up two (or more) from a pool that consists of Rui Hachimura, Deni Avdija, or even Thomas Bryant, Corey Kispert, and Montrezl Harrell. Of course, this is not counting other draft assets they might need to part ways with.
Interestingly, Spencer Dinwiddie might be the first player the team themselves want to trade. With a 13 PPG average, Dinwiddie’s comeback from his ACL injury seems to have slowed him down. Coupled with a few negative locker room rumors, he could have overstayed his welcome.

This trade, however, could give the Wizards assets they need to acquire Sabonis. The Los Angeles Clippers are reported to be interested as well, but without much to offer trade-wise.
What do you think about Sabonis playing for the Wizards? Will he help the team play better?
