The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat preseason matchup certainly did not go how most players and fans expected. It was the preseason finale for both teams, with the regular NBA season days away. However, Jimmy Butler and Dennis Schroder’s unexpected scuffle was the center of attention after the Heat’s 121-100 win.
Fans seemed to pick sides, with many ending up unhappy with how Schroder reacted. While Butler was the one who stepped on Schroder’s foot, the latter was the only one fouled.

Schroder tries to trip Jimmy Butler during the preseason finale
As players gathered around a rebound in the second quarter, Butler’s feet reached back and he stepped on Schroder’s foot. Schroder’s reaction was a tad bit unexpected. The 28-year-old extended his own foot the moment Butler tried to make it down the court, looking to trip the Heat star. The Celtics guard was slapped with a flagrant foul, while Butler also got to make two free throws.

Schroder’s move ended up drawing negative criticism, as many believe it could have gravely injured Butler if he had actually tripped. During the first quarter, Schroder received a blocking foul for one of Butler’s drives, setting a tone for the remainder of the game.

“He got caught in 4K,” wrote one fan, while another wondered if Schroder had meant to make some other move. Many were simply unhappy with what Schroder tried. Others pointed out that Butler’s move was also on purpose, and both of them should have been fouled together. “ayo he could’ve seriously hurt butler,” said one fan.
