LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are the closest of friends that are almost like family. So much that LeBron calls Dwyane’s son “Nephew” to signify that he’s his brother’s child. Therefore, when it was announced that the G-League’s Salt Lake City Stars drafted Zaire Wade, LeBron happily congratulated him on his Instagram stories.

The Salt Lake City Stars are the G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz. Utah Jazz are majorly owned by a business ownership group mainly run by Ryan Smith, Dwyane Wade’s close friend. Last season, Wade bought an ownership stake in the Utah Jazz after joining this ownership group. Therefore, it is natural that the players who did not make the cut in the draft among other critics will point out how this could hint at nepotism.

However, LeBron James promptly took to Instagram, and while congratulating Zaire, shut down these allegations.

LeBron James shuts down haters while congratulating Zaire Wade

The Salt Lake City Stars drafted Wade 10th overall in the G-League draft. Wade’s selection brought an end to a long and winding road to the Stars. Players can’t sign with any individual G League teams. Instead, they must sign with the league first, after which they must go through the G League drafting. Wade had to get drafted by Salt Lake City in order to play for his preferred team.

So it’s safe to assume that Zaire and the Wade family were expecting him to be selected at No. 10. But that didn’t diminish their happiness.

This was a moment of pride for Dwyane Wade. Much more than the time LeBron James announced his decision to move to the Miami Heat. This footage shows how ecstatic Dwyane was when he heard they had drafted his son to his own team. And of course, in this moment of joy and excitement, the first people to share this with your family. So Wade would be happy to see that his brother LeBron is defending his son from the unnecessary hate.

What does this mean for the Wade family?

Dwyane must be proud to see that his own son will professionally grow under his mentorship and guidance. However, one thing that needs to be mentioned is that from the cards that were dealt with Zaire, and the genetics that was handed down to him, this can only be termed nepotism if Zaire had no talent and still made the league.

Therefore, until we witness and analyze his performance in the league, there is no conclusive answer to that debate. And the media should be happy for the Wade family who have potentially given the NBA world another generational talent.
