After the Golden State Warriors blew out the Brooklyn Nets in a 117-99 victory, unusual reports have been surfacing about the Nets’ reaction to this loss. Especially regarding their head coach, Steve Nash. Reports suggest that Steve Nash gave up on the game in the fourth quarter with almost 10 minutes left on the clock. On paper, an 18 point loss does not seem like a blowout. However, in crunch time when the team could push to make a comeback, the head coach allegedly gave up. That is unusual indeed.
According to Stephen A. Smith, Steve Nash threw in the metaphorical towel with 9 minutes on the clock. And he even allegedly said, “to hell with this”.
Oooohhhhh, I can’t wait for @FirstTake tomorrow morning. I can’t believe I came out to the Barclay’s Center for this. The @BrooklynNets got smoked. @StephenCurry30 put on a damn show. And Steve Nash said “to hell with this” and threw in the towel with 9 min left. I mean Damn!!!

Steve Nash expresses disappointment after blowout loss to the Warriors
According to Smith, Nash gave up on the crucial game against the Warriors after barely playing 3 full minutes in the last quarter. Even in the post-game press conference, Nash was explicitly not very happy with the way the Nets played today. When asked about how they lost control in the third quarter, Nash was very critical about the way his team played against GSW.
He said, “Yeah, I mean, I felt like the signs were coming in the first half. You know we were making poor decisions on the first action and the level of the ball. Defensively, we were getting driven and weren’t protecting our rim with our defensive coverages. You know and then as the game went on I thought we got more and more stagnant offensively.”
Further, he even expressed his disappointment from today’s performance while talking about their takeaways from the game. He said, “Hopefully we can take a lot from the game. But I think the number one thing is I just never felt like our energy was hard enough, our compete level was high enough you know. And that obviously is non-negotiable against a team as good as the Warriors.”

What does this mean for the Brooklyn Nets?
It should not surprise the players that Nash is disappointed. A team that is expected to compete at the top tier of the Eastern Conference simply can not get blown out like this. Especially from opponents who are not even fully healthy. This clearly indicates that the locker room needs Kyrie Irving back.
Is it time for the Nets to cash in and trade Irving? Or will they find another solution to this prolonged absence? Let us know what you think.
