The league witnessed a blockbuster trade deadline day with some of the biggest stars involved in the trade deals. Brooklyn Nets traded James Harden to the Sixers for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, and Andre Drummond. This trade deal finally put an end to the Ben Simmons saga. While Harden is a top incoming for the Sixers, Joel Embiid reportedly wanted the Sixers to bring someone else.

Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey wanted Harden badly and did everything he could to sign him. Harden and Morey have had a good relationship since their Rockets days.

While Morey pulled off the Harden deal smartly, Sixers star Joel Embiid reportedly wanted him to sign someone else. Embiid has been in top form this season and is one of the contenders for the MVP award. He felt that Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal would have been a better fit in Philly and pushed for him.

Joel Embiid pushed for Bradley Beal at first and not James Harden

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons recently talked about the Harden-Simmons trade in his podcast. During the podcast, he revealed that Embiid wanted Beal badly and kept pushing for him.

“Part of the reason the trade stuff took so long was because there was the Sixers side that wanted Harden—obviously Daryl (Morey) because Harden is his guy,” Simmons said in his podcast. “But Embiid really wanted Beal because he felt like he was a better fit and was pushing, pushing, pushing.”

Bradley Beal has been out due to a sprained ligament on his left wrist. However, as Bill reported, Embiid pushed for him despite knowing his injury status. But Morey had his focus on reuniting with Harden and made it happen in the end.

James Harden has been underwhelming this season so far. His overall and three-point shooting efficiency has been dreadful this season with 41.4% and 33.2%, respectively. But Harden has been on the top for many seasons and with confidence, he has the ability to bounce back. He has improved the Sixers roster and could play an important role in helping them win a championship this season.
