The NBA trade deadline always gives rise to the most interesting rumors, which might turn into reality. Most teams work hard to perfect their roster for the playoffs, maybe adding some extra depth. The New York Knicks seem to be on a similar path, already having roped in Cam Reddish from the Atlanta Hawks.

Recent rumors hint at a possible Dallas Mavericks-Knicks trade involving Jalen Brunson. The 25-year-old guard has apparently been on the team’s radar for some time and could be a good addition.

Are the Knicks looking to acquire Jalen Brunson?

As the NBA trade deadline on February 10 draws closer, reports have started speaking of other teams who want to rope in a Mavs player. Brunson, though on a slightly less expensive contract, is probably one of the most important guards on the team. Along with Dorian Finney-Smith, Brunson will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Unless they manage to agree upon a contract extension by June 30, Brunson might sign with another franchise. And by the looks of it, teams are more than eager to join hands with Brunson (or Finney-Smith).

The Knicks might try to sign Brunson during free agency this summer. However, they would like to have him on board sooner. It will help them with the remainder of their campaign, which is a priority right now. Of course, there is no indication that Brunson himself wants to leave the Mavs.

“They want him bad,” said an NBA Source about the Knicks pursuing Brunson.

How is Brunson scoring this season?

This season, Brunson is averaging 16 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game, much better than his previous three seasons with the team. His performance has put him in the spotlight, resulting in teams like the Knicks showing interest.

Otherwise, the Mavericks are currently placed fifth in the Western Conference with a 24-19 win-loss record. They recently snapped the Memphis Grizzlies winning streak and beat the Orlando Magic 108-92 at home.
