There are times when one player is enough to lead a team to victory. One star often has an explosive night, giving the opposition’s defense no chance to react. This week, it was young New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett who seems to be on a mission against the Los Angeles Lakers.

As the season progresses, the Lakers are already struggling to put up some consistent performances. A win usually follows multiple losses, which also ultimately threatens their trip to the playoffs.

Having said that, RJ Barrett’s performance has people in awe.

Fans react to RJ Barrett’s performance against LeBron James and the Lakers

As per reports, Barrett dropped 17 points in the first quarter against the Lakers. He was on the court for eight minutes, shooting 86% from the field and making 3-for-4 from the three-point line. The simple stat had a massive impact on the score, giving the Knicks a 42-29 lead by the end of the quarter.

It goes without saying that fans were impressed. One person added that it looks like Barrett has been watching some James Harden highlights, which is clearly the way to explosive (and efficient) scoring. Harden has posted massive numbers throughout his career, something which Barrett and the Knicks would not mind getting used to.

Certain users asked Barrett to be consistent, while fans defended Barrett and praised his consistency. Save for the 11 points against the Sacramento Kings and the 13 points during the 108-105 win against Boston Celtics, Barrett has posted over 15 points in January. The Knicks, unfortunately, remain at the bottom half of the table with a 24-28 win-loss record.

One observation made was that Barrett has been a better player for the team than Julius Randle. Now, Randle is supporting the younger star. Furthermore, some even added that more consistency from the 21-year-old will end up earning him an All-Star selection.

Some fans took this in another way and stated that it was the Lakers and their bad performance that helps Barrett look like a good player.

That being said, the Duke product is averaging 17.5 points this season. The Knicks, following their game against the Lakers, will be playing the Utah Jazz next.
