When it comes to the NBA in the 2000s, the Purple and Gold of the Lakers standout as the most dominant team. Led by Kobe Bryant, the Lakers won multiple championships and truly established themselves as a juggernaut.

While many remember the duo of Kobe and Shaquille O’Neal dominating with a three peat, probably the best version of Bryant we saw was when the Lakers won two consecutive championships in 2008-09 and the 2009-10 seasons.

One of the most important players in the supporting cast was big man Pau Gasol. The All-Star big man was one of the most influential figures in the championship run. With his ability to defend and even dominate the boards, Gasol became the perfect complimentary piece around Kobe.

Although Vanessa Bryant did congratulate him through a tweet earlier, she had a special gift for the 40-year-old. Gifting the 2-time NBA champion a fine bottle of wine, Bryant had a subtle taunt for Gasol as she wrote, “I’ll believe it when I see it. Congratulations on your retirement” aiming to the fact that Gasol already made a comeback after stepping away from the game.

Gasol certainly had a good laugh with the taunt and even that by writing, “Thank you, sister!!” in his Instagram story. Gasol and Kobe certainly had a connection on and off the court.

Given that the Spaniard has now stepped away from the game, Kobe will finally see his wish being fulfilled. Do you think Pau Gasol is a first ballot Hall of Famer?
