Kevin Durant has been in the firing line of the media ever since the Golden State Warriors won the championship. Many analysts and former players are claiming that the impact of KD’s rings with the Warriors has diminished due to the fact that they were able to win a championship before and after Durant was there. One of these analysts, Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, has gone back and forth with Durant before.

Barkley claimed that KD needs to win a championship as the ‘bus driver’ instead of as the ‘passenger’. According to him, Durant’s legacy will forever have that against him. Durant clapped back at Barkley on Twitter and he claimed he’s just like the other former players who are jealous of how much KD earns.

But how much did ‘Chuck’ make during his time in the NBA?

Charles Barkley’s net worth

During his playing days, Charles Barkley earned roughly $40 million in salary. His peak salary was in his final season with the Houston Rockets in 1999 when he earned $9 million. That’s the same as around $14 million today after adjusting for inflation. He also earned millions from endorsements with companies like Nike.

‘Sir Charles’ is a Hall of Famer who now works as an analyst on ‘Inside the NBA’. He has given some controversial takes over the years and he has been quarreling with Durant for some time. He claims Durant needs to be the main guy on a championship-winning team to be truly considered an all-time great.

Even though he won 2 Finals MVPs with the Warriors, it was still Steph Curry‘s team. He didn’t win as the main guy with the Oklahoma City Thunder and he hasn’t won yet with the Brooklyn Nets.

Did the Warriors winning the title affect the legacy of Kevin Durant?

Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors after they had the best regular season in NBA history, but got beat in the Finals by LeBron James‘ Cleveland Cavaliers. It was a huge moment that sent shock waves around the league and the Warriors were heavy favorites to win. And win they did, after going 16-1 in the playoffs. Durant was named Finals MVP as he earned his first title.

After Durant left to try to win a championship ‘on his own,’ the Warriors went into a small rebuild. While KD hasn’t gotten close to winning a championship with the Brooklyn Nets, the Warriors won another one.
