The NBA has seen many greats come and go, but only one name has made it to the GOAT discussions from different generations – Michael Jordan. Jordan was one of the most dominant players of his generation and is still idolized by many despite retiring more than 18 years ago.

His Airness won six championships in his career with Chicago Bulls. He has won almost every trophy or award that many NBA stars can only dream of. In fact, Jordan was obsessed with winning. He could go to any heights to win for his team. And this is what led many to believe there was a dark side of him in the championships, his ego.

It was the Netflix docuseries, ‘The Last Dance’, that drew everyone’s attention to how competitive Jordan was on the court. He even trash-talked his way out against some of his competitors. In fact, there are several instances proving that Jordan indeed was the trash-talking king of the NBA at his time. Famous podcaster Joe Rogan once highlighted Jordan’s ego and made some interesting comments on the same.

Joe Rogan talks about Michael Jordan and his ego

Famous podcaster Joe Rogan once discussed Michael Jordan’s ego in his podcast in 2020. He said that Jordan was obsessed with winning and talked about the psychological issues with winners.

“I think Michael Jordan was so hard on himself and so like so obsessed with winning,” Joe Rogan said.

He added, “I mean, I think this is why I wanted to bring him up. Because I think there’s psychological issues that these extreme winners have that you don’t get to where they are without them. It’s like where the illness becomes beneficial, right? If you’re not sadistic, you don’t make a good serial killer.”

Joe Rogan on his podcast talked about if the ego was good for his career or a bad element. However, he noted that while having an ego is a bad thing in a society; it turned out to be good for Jordan. Rogan added that it is the same with winners from any field who are obsessed with winning.

Jordan had a lot of confidence in himself and that helped him in achieving the status of an NBA great. While it won’t be known if Jordan, without his ego, would have had the same career or not, Joe Rogan definitely thinks that it helped Jordan massively.
