However, few know that he once desired to be involved in the UFC in some capacity. American podcaster Joe Rogan has recently stated that Shaq would not be able to fight in the UFC and will have to lose a lot of weight.
Shaquille O’Neal retired in 2011 after a one-year stint with the Boston Celtics. Shaq was very popular during his playing years. His popularity has led to him getting several endorsement deals. After his retirement in 2011, Shaq tried to contact UFC president Dana White to show his interest in being involved with UFC.

“Shaq loves (mixed martial arts). Shaq’s been training for a long time,” White said.
White also confirmed that Shaq wants to be involved in UFC in some capacity. However, Shaq didn’t get an opportunity to fight in the UFC. But he has been a part of the WWE in the past. UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently revealed that Shaq will have to lose a lot of weight in order to fight in the UFC.
Joe Rogan reveals Shaquille O’Neal needs to lose 75 pounds to make it to UFC
Joe Rogan, who has been in the news recently, once said in his podcast that Shaq could never fight in the UFC.
“A guy like that could never fight in the UFC. Cause he probably can’t make 265,” Joe Rogan said.
“He’d have to lose about 75 pounds. They said he weighed 330, is that what he weighed?”

Shaq wanted to be a part of the UFC in some or the other capacity. In fact, while playing for the Lakers, he expressed his desire to fight Hong Man Choi after his retirement. However, that is not possible, since Hong is not active now.

But Shaq has been a big fan of MMA and the UFC. He has watched several fights and recently admitted that UFC athletes are the greatest athletes in the world.
