Philadelphia 76ers great Allen Iverson admired Michael Jordan during his playing career, even stating that he wanted to be like Jordan. He met Michael Jordan for the first time in his rookie season in 1996. However, another MJ had left him star-struck in his playing years: Michael Jackson. In a recent episode of Club Shay Shay, he opened up on his first meetings with Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson.

Allen Iverson revealed that he was ‘star-struck’ when he first saw Michael Jordan in his rookie campaign. He revealed this meeting during his Hall of Fame speech in 2016. Iverson had a great rookie season and was named Rookie of the Year.

Allen Iverson appeared as a guest on the 33rd episode of Club Shay Shay on YouTube. He opened up on his NBA career and influence on players’ fashion. Also, Iverson revealed how he felt when he met Jordan and Michael Jackson for the first time.

“I was starstruck. He (Jordan) didn’t look real to me,” Allen Iverson said.

“My teammates, they teased me before the game because they were like ‘you’re not going to play your game’ because Mike is on the floor.”

When the Sixers hosted Chicago Bulls in the second of the 1996-97 season, Allen Iverson played against Michael Jordan for the first time. The game ended in a Chicago Bulls victory as Jordan scored 27 points. Allen Iverson was the points leader for the Sixers in the game.

Allen Iverson used to love Michael Jackson’s songs at the time he saw MJ for the first time. He also shared how he felt when he saw ‘The King of Pop’.

“I felt faint… I thought I was going to really pass out like one of them fans,” Iverson said.

“I’m like ‘okay now I understand’ what them fans be going through when they see him (Michael Jackson).”

Allen Iverson spent 10 seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and was traded to Denver Nuggets in 2006. After stints with Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies, Iverson re-joined his former team.

Philadelphia 76ers has retired his number 3 jersey. He then joined Besiktas Basketbol in Turkey and retired in 2011.
