Since the 2019 NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors have been struggling due to injuries and missed out on the playoffs for two straight seasons. But the future looks bright with Klay Thompson’s return closing in. In addition to that, their rookie Jonathan Kuminga has also taken a major step towards recovery.

The Dubs Nation drafted Kuminga as 7th overall in the 2021 draft. However, during the team’s preseason game against the Nuggets, Kuminga had to leave mid-game after tweaking his knee. The franchise then announced that Kuminga will be out for some time due to a strained patella tendon in his right knee.

Golden State Warriors provide a major update on Jonathan Kuminga return

The Warriors’ PR team recently announced that the 19-year-old Congolese can participate in the full team practice. But Kuminga will still miss the next three games. Then, the team will re-evaluate him this Friday and will make a final call on his return.

“Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. who suffered a strained right patellar tendon on October 6 in a preseason game against the Denver Nuggets, is making good progress and has been cleared to participate in full team practices He will not play in the team’s next three games and will be re-evaluated again next Friday,” Warriors PR team’s statement read.

If he gets a green signal on Friday, he might play his first official game as a Warrior against the OKC. This would mean an easy outing against a struggling unit and it might allow coach Kerr to give him good minutes.

Jonathan Kuminga bypassed college basketball last season and signed a one-year contract with NBA G League Ignite. However, he made his G League debut in February this year and recorded 19 points in the team’s victory over Warriors’ G League affiliate Santa Cruz Warriors. He averaged 15.8 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 2.7 APG last season in the G League.

The Warriors played the last season overshadowed by major injuries. And even currently, they don’t have Klay Thompson or James Wiseman on the playing roster. However, despite missing several players to injuries, the Warriors have had an excellent start to the season going 2-0 up in two games.
