Recently there has been much speculation about who the Los Angeles Lakers can sign as their 14th player. While teams will be looking to focus on the 2021-22 season, there is a significant amount of talk about the Lakers roster.
The Lakers have 18 players under contract right now. Out of those, 13 are guaranteed, while three are Exhibit 10 contracts and the remaining are two-way deals.
General Manager Rob Pelinka also discussed the 14th roster spot. Pelinka talked about how the team is evaluating their chances and will make a decision that is good for everyone.

Let’s take a look at three players who could possibly take up that final spot for the Lakers.
Which player could the Lakers end up signing?
“We’re never absolute, we’re always fluid and anything could be presented. And we are in kind of our final evaluations on what to do with the 14th spot,” Pelinka said. “That’s something that we will make the decision on and around before camp starts”.
While there was no certainty about the player, one can be sure the Los Angeles Lakers will fill the 14th spot soon.
There is a possibility that the Lakers will sign a young player. However, many believe the Los Angeles Lakers might just sign another veteran.
James Ennis III
After his recent workout with the team, Ennis feels like the obvious choice for the Lakers. Ennis began his NBA career with the Miami Heat and has been with teams like the Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers. In 2019, he joined the Orlando Magic. Shooting 47.3% from the field, and 43.3% from the three-point range, Ennis could be a good addition to the Los Angeles Lakers roster.

As Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka said on Thursday, the team is looking to fill its 14th roster spot by training camp next Tuesday.

Wesley Matthews
Wesley Matthews is another popular choice for the 14th spot on the Los Angeles Lakers roster. As even if they find a better fit for the roster, Matthews will be a good small forward for the team to have.
Having played for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, this could be a chance for Matthews to prove himself. The 34-year-old averaged 4.8 points.

JaKarr Sampson
JaKarr Sampson is another possible option that has been linked to the Lakers for some time.
The rumors started back in August, however many people believe Sampson might not be the best fit for the Lakers. He was with the Indiana Pacers for the last two seasons, averaging 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds for the team during the 2020-21 season.
Therefore, if the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to hype it up, they might go with Sampson.
