When in an NBA game, maintaining your decorum is not as easy. Often, in the heat of the moment, players tend to forgo the rules, letting emotions get the better of them. Some stars, like Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James, have earned the reputation of being whiny for the same.

To most people, the 37-year-old comes off as a complainer, always trying to get his way. However, there seems to be a discrepancy in his media portrayal and what the referees actually think of it.

While James‘ game involves layups, assists, and defensive, it is reportedly difficult to officiate the man. As a result, there’s a lot of complaining and questioning generated from James’ side.

NBA referees choose to defend LeBron James while on the court

Looking back at previous events, James has often found it in himself to convince the officials to turn a call his way. His behavior has ended up garnering some negative reactions online, with the media and fans wondering why he whines so much.

The referees, though, seem to be focused on one point; James does not go ‘overboard’.

While speaking to Fox Sports, retired referee, Danny Crawford, spoke at length about the four-time NBA champion. “That lets you know how respectful he is,” Crawford said. “There’s nothing nasty about what he says.”

With players even hurling expletives on occasion, James’ approach often earns him his way.

Furthermore, James has zero technical fouls this season. In fact, his fellow Lakers stars, Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook, both have 12 each. James, on his end, seems to have maintained himself. Even if he wants to make his point, the Akron native is always respectful.

Additionally, Phoenix Suns’ coach, Monty Williams, even recounted James’ conversation with the officials. Williams could not believe the question asked by James, which only proved how unique his thought process was. James’ intelligence has always been held in high regard, and this is just another incident backing that claim.

What do you think of Crawford’s comments? Does being respectful really make all the difference?
