One of Michael Jordan’s most unforgettable achievements is his six NBA championship wins with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s. This achievement put Jordan among the top players in the debate of who’s the greatest of all time. That amount of success certainly comes at the expense of those who could not achieve it. Isiah Thomas has throughout his career been infamously known as Michael Jordan’s rival. He has often certainly clarified who he thinks are the greatest players in the current generation. They are LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry.
However, he said if Durant and James were using the same offensive strategy as Jordan, even they would have six rings. And while that may sound like praise, one is bound to question if it’s driven by ulterior motivations like slandering the Bulls.

In his conversation with Kevin Durant on the latest release of the Boardroom podcast, Thomas heaped a lot of praises on Durant. He said, “If you put Kevin Durant in the triple post, and he gets to post up like Jordan posted up… If you put Kevin Durant in the triple post in the mid-range, you know… Hell yeah! You see what I mean.”
After naming legends like Scottie Pippen and Steve Kerr who he claimed wouldn’t be able to guard Durant, Thomas said that despite having these players, if “we can’t triple-team you in the mid-range in the triple post, you win six of them too. And the same thing with LeBron.”
Since Thomas is from Chicago and Jordan is not, many fans felt that Thomas did not appreciate Jordan taking the city’s attention away from him. This is allegedly the reason there was a constant tension between Jordan’s Bulls and Thomas’ Pistons. However, nobody could expect he would take his dislike this far.

What does this mean for Kevin Durant and LeBron James?
Earlier in the podcast, Thomas even reveals how disappointed he was not to lead the Pistons to become the first team to win a three-peat in the modern NBA. So while it shows that these statements could have ulterior motives, maybe he wishes to say this generation has its own Michael Jordan?
While Durant clearly sounded flattered by this compliment, he may also know the possible ulterior motives of Thomas’ statements. And LeBron is probably tired of hearing all the Michael Jordan comparisons by now. Nevertheless, such comparisons only reflect that their career is on the right path to GOAT caliber glory. Do you agree?
