Los Angeles Lakers have assembled a super team for the 2021-22 season. The 17-times NBA champions are the joint-most successful NBA team alongside the Celtics. However, they have had a roster overhaul during the summer and are one of the top contenders for the championship this season.
The Lakers have added 12 players to their roster during the off-season, which includes Russell Westbrook. DeAndre Jordan, Carmelo Anthony, among others. They already had two of the best players in the NBA in LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But despite that, they went on a shopping spree during the summer and signed several stars.

Former Lakers star Metta World Peace has recently talked about the importance of a ‘super team’ in the NBA.

Metta World Peace opens up on Los Angeles Lakers being a super team
Former Lakers star Metta World Peace has recently talked about the idea of a super team. He told Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson’ that assembling a super team is important if a team wants to win the championship.
“Super teams are necessary. You just seen what happened with the Lakers,” Metta World Peace told Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson.
“If you don’t team up in the NBA – I mean, good luck trying to win a title. I don’t care what nobody says.”

It’s not easy to sign many top stars of the league in the same summer. However, the Lakers have the kind of pulling power no other franchise has. Many all-time greats have played for the Lakers in the past and many continue to play for them. This is the reason why they’ve been successful in building a massive roster. However, the Lakers have been under par during the preseason and have lost all 6 preseason games they played. The preseason results aren’t important, but it boosts the confidence of the team ahead of the season.

The Lakers are not the only team in the NBA with a ‘super team’ tag. Brooklyn Nets are another top side in the NBA with some of the best NBA players at their disposal. The Nets, on the other side, had a decent preseason outing and even beat the Lakers 123-97 at the Staples Center. If both teams stay at the top of their form throughout the season, they could face each other in the Finals in 2022.
