At the All-Star game in Cleveland, Stephen Curry made sure that everyone remembered why he is the best shooter the game has ever seen. He made 16 three-pointers during the game, eventually taking home the Kobe Bryant NBA All-Star award. Meant to honor the late Los Angeles Lakers legend, Curry is now part of a very special gesture.

Of course, the Golden State Warriors star knows how meaningful the trophy is. Not only does it honor Bryant, but is also a first of its kind.

Stephen Curry was emotional upon winning the Kobe Bryant award at the All-Star game

Two years following his death on January 26, 2020, the world and the NBA continue to try and honor Bryant in any way they can. The new trophy is yet another way for the league to continue Kobe’s legacy.

Curry, who won the first award, was humbled and honored. “Yeah, this is definitely special,” Curry acknowledged. He added that they are getting to honor Bryant’s life and legacy with this one trophy. After all, a lot of thought was put into its making. “I know that everything on this trophy means something in terms of his life and what he represented.”

Furthermore, Curry knows that winning the first one makes it extra special. Also, he has won only one All-Star MVP in his career.

The three-time NBA Champion further spoke about the 75th Anniversary Team. To Curry, and all other active players,  standing in the middle of all these legends will always will a dream come true.

Other details about the Bryant MVP trophy

With the MVP trophy being renamed, the model itself will feature details meant to signify Bryant as well as the All-Star game. Starting with the base dimension of the eight-sided trophy, the league honors Bryant’s jersey number and 80 years of the All-Star Games. Furthermore, the base is of two-inches in height, also meant to signify Bryant’s 2002 NBA All-Star MVP award.

Apart from that, the 24 stars on Level 1 are present for Bryant No. 24 jersey. Level 1 also has a seven-inch height for Bryant’s 2007 NBA All-Star MVP award. Level 2’s 10 stars are meant to signify Bryant’s N0. 10 USA Basketball jersey, and the five stars on Level 3 are meant for Bryant’s five NBA titles. Additionally, Level 4’s single star represents Bryant’s Maurice Podoloff Trophy for the 2007-2008 season.
