One cannot mention the NBA’s last decade without thinking of the Golden State Warriors. Furthermore, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green have been at the center of the team’s success. In a recent interview, Green opened up about job security in the NBA, and how free agency might work.

Despite some lows with the team, Green’s dedication to the Warriors has never been questioned. Of course, every player has to deal with questions about the free agency at least once. For Green, however, they might be a little different.

What does Draymond Green have to say about job security?

While on The Old Man and The Three, Draymond Green starts off by talking about the security of one’s job, and how it links to free agency. At the end of the day, Green admits that one needs stability.

“It’s important, all those things. It’s important as someone with a wife and three children, it’s important. I have a seven-year-old, five-year-old. They’re school age,” he said, while also mentioning potential schools and states being changed. When a player switches teams, it might end up being more difficult for their family to uproot their lives and move with him.

In some cases, the player lives in a city for years with his family, only to be moved within a matter of weeks. Green has looked to lock himself in, making sure he stays put. “To lock that in – and like you said it ‘certainty’ is the big word. I think in life we are all chasing certainty. No one loves – except maybe a sick f*** – no one loves the unknown”.

Green discusses the free agency and his NBA contract

Green spoke about free agency in detail, and how it can even be held up for six days because everyone is just waiting for one guy to sign. Overall, free agency represents uncertainty. The Warriors star himself chose to sign earlier than others would have, choosing that stability over money. While more money (around $170 million) would have been on the cards, the situation of the team and his place on it could have been in question.

Having said that, Green is currently on a four-year, $99,666,362 contract with the GSW.
