Dennis Rodman is famously known for his stints with the legendary Pistons of the 80s and the Bulls of the 90s. He had the opportunity to play alongside some of the best players of that time. However, few know that he had a short stint with the Lakers, where he played alongside Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.
Shaq joined the Lakers in 1996 after four seasons with the Magic. Dennis Rodman was released by the Bulls in early 1999 and he was in the search of an NBA team. He signed with the Lakers for the remainder of the 1998-99 season. Rodman joined the LA-based franchise on a pro-rated based salary and featured in just 23 games.

But Rodman’s Lakers stint was short and not very successful as compared to his former teams. But he surely cherished his time in LA as he got the opportunity to play alongside some of the league’s best players.

Rodman recently said that Shaquille O’Neal had a problem with him and also explained the reason behind it.

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman was recently asked who is the toughest player to guard among Shaq and Karl Malone. Rodman answered that Shaq has a problem with him because he could hold Shaq down.
“Shaq has a problem with me. Because, you know, I’m probably the only guy I could hold him down,” Rodman said.
“You know, like just three or four-point five-point stuff. Like gotta add up, but our loss of warning just literally personally just hate me. Because, you know, I just get in his head all the time, stuff like that. He’s stronger and stuff like that.”

Rodman played just 23 games for the Lakers during the 1998-99 season, starting in 11 of them. He averaged 2.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists during his short stint in LA. However, the power forward was waived in April 1999.

The Lakers qualified for the playoffs in the 1998-99 season. They managed to beat Houston Rockets in 4 games in the first round. However, they were swept by eventual champions and Rodman’s former team, San Antonio Spurs, in the 2nd round.
