The Golden State Warriors aren’t competing inside the NBA bubble. Thus, Draymond Green has found a temporary role as TNT’s studio analyst. Green features in pre-game shows alongside the regular crew that includes, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson Jr. A couple of days ago, Draymond Green made some comments about Devin Booker that has now earned him a hefty fine.
For those of you who had not come across Green’s statements, he stated on TNT that Devin Booker should leave Phoenix and take his talents elsewhere. Here is exactly what Green mentioned:
“It’s great to see Book playing well and Phoenix playing well,” Green said. “But get my man out of Phoenix. It’s not good for him, it’s not good for his career. Sorry, Chuck, but they’ve got to get Book out of Phoenix. I need my man to go somewhere where he can play great basketball all the time and win because he’s that type of player.”

The Warriors star just spoke his mind in front of the camera which led to thousands of people commenting on it. Ernie also asked Green if he was tampering right after he mentioned his views. He replied with a “maybe.” While Green may have said it on a casual note, he now has to face the consequences of it.
The NBA imposes a strict fine on Warriors star Draymond Green
The NBA is very much against players tampering certain decisions. Athletes can certainly influence the decision-making process of a player, which in this case seems to be Devin Booker. While Booker has a contract that runs for a few more years, Green said he wants him out of Phoenix.
By looking at the comments made by the three-time NBA champion, the league decided to intervene and take strict actions. “Warriors star Draymond Green fined $50,000 for public comments about Suns All-Star Devin Booker and for violating the league’s anti-tampering rule, informed Shams Charania of ‘The Athletic.’

This is certainly a move that will serve as a notice to other players or executives to refrain from making statements that tampers the relationship between a player and his particular team. However, this is not the first time the NBA has taken stern action relating to tampering.
In 2018, the Los Angeles Lakers were handed a similar fine of $50,000. Magic Johnson, who was the president of basketball operations at that time, complimented Giannis Antetokounmpo, for which he got into trouble.

The league even sent out an anti-tampering memo to every team in 2018 to reduce the possibility of these situations arising in the future.
