What is the Health and Welfare Benefit Plan of the NBA?
The NBA’s Health and Benefit Welfare Plan provides health and welfare benefits to current and former NBA players, as well as their spouses and dependents. However, these benefits are subject to the eligibility requirements for each benefit. Currently, this plan is split into three separate programs. The first program focuses on providing health reimbursements to players, former players, and their families under certain IRS rules. Subsequently, they aim the second program to provide coverage for medical and prescription drugs. This is limited to some eligible retired players and their families. Simultaneously, the third program’s objective is to provide Medical, Prescription Drugs, Dental, Vision, Life/AD&D, and Disability insurance coverage to eligible current NBA players and their families.
