Finally, it happened. Barcelona has sacked Ronald Koeman after a miserable managing career at the club. After joining the club 14 months back, things have not gone well for Koeman. Barca’s 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano was their fourth defeat in the last six games, which surely became the final nail in the coffin.

They lie ninth on the table with 15 points as the Blaugrana is in danger of not finishing in the top four. Likewise, Koeman spoke about his troubles with the club, which became his last words for the club.

Ronald Koeman speaks for the last time

The Dutchman spoke about the problems he faced with the club and focused on how the task at hand was tough. He had doubted his future before and eventually the inevitable happened.

“Is my future in danger? I don’t know…”

“There are rivals who have more balanced and more physical teams, but we have shown that we can be at a good level. But that is not enough and what counts is the result. It is incredible that we lost today.”

“The standings indicate that we are not doing well, that we have lowered our level. We have lost high-quality players. In recent years, the top teams have been strengthened and we have not been able to, and that also counts,” said Koeman.

Koeman was once a brilliant player for the club. Playing at center-back, his long-range free-kicks were accurate and provided that spark for the club. However, things have gone down south for him as a manager. Therefore, reliving him of his duties seems to be the right decision. With the financial problems at the club, it is going to be a tough task for anyone to come in and do a good job.

Yet, there is one familiar person who may return!

Moreover, the club is doing well leading the Qatar league; hence proving his credentials. With him knowing Barcelona inside out, he may be the perfect replacement for Koeman.

Xavi played 767 games for Barcelona, scoring 85 goals. He is one of those rare players to win the World Cup, Euro Cup, Champions League, and the Spanish League title.
