FC Barcelona has announced that they have reached an agreement with Pedro Rodríguez to renew his contract until 30 June 2019. The striker’s current contract was due to expire on 30 June 2016. Pedro’s buyout clause will remain at 150 million euros.

The Canary Islander will be signing the new deal over the next few days. The 27-year old has been subject to interest from Liverpool and Arsenal over the last couple of seasons, with a slowly diminishing role in Barcelona.

Pedro, who has come through the famed La Masia of Barcelona, made sporadic appearances for Barcelona in the treble winning 2008-09 Season. He played enough games to collect a winners medal in all 3 competitions. He made a breakthrough in the 2009-10 Season, becoming a regular in Pep Guardiola’s team and became the first person to score in 6 competitions in a calendar year, as Barcelona became the first team to complete the sextuple.

He continued his fine form in the 2010-11 season, as a member of the Messi-Villa-Pedro Trident that won the League-Champions League double in 2011. Injuries from the 2011-12 season, along with the purchase of Alexis Sanchez and the emergence of youth players limited Pedro’s role. He did finish with 13 goals that season, including a brace in the Kings cup final.

After a quiet 2012-13 season, Pedro regained some form in the 2013-14 season under Gerado Martino, scoring 19 goals in all competitions. The arrival and success of Luis Suarez to form a new devastating trio for Barcelona limited his starting XI appearances.
