According to President Josep Maria Bartomeu, discussions between the Frenchman and the club management have led to positive signs. They are currently discussing his salary demands and trying to fit him into their salary structure.

Umtiti joined the Spanish side from Olympique Lyonnais in 2016 and has been performing extremely well ever since. The 24-year-old has been a steady influence at the back alongside Gerrard Pique and has also won the Double this season. However, despite his importance, the 24-year-old has a low release clause( €60 million i.e A$95.17 million) and that has made him the subject of a number of transfer speculations, including a possible deal with Manchester United.

United fans, will, however, be extremely disappointed to hear this news. It is of no doubt that Umtiti is regarded highly at the Nou Camp and if he does sign a new contract this summer, it is unlikely that he will be going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

While speaking to radio station RAC1, Bartomeu said,”Umtiti has a contract. We are talking with him to renew it. We try to maintain a salary structure that has a certain harmony. We will try to reach an agreement because he has had a good season. The important thing is that we work in peace.”

Already a full-fledged international for France, the defender will be hoping to put in some impressive performances in the upcoming World Cup which will help him to make a stronger case to both Barcelona and his potential suitors. Keep watching this space for more.
