Barcelona can become symbol of world football: Bartomeu

Barcelona can become the symbol of world football over the next few years, Maria Bartomeu believes.

Current FIFA presidential candidate Bartomeu says he wants to see Barcelona FC “scale new heights” and become  a “symbol  of football” worldwide.

The Catalan club are one of the best in the world and have seen great success, with the last year’s treble adding to their rich history.

Speaking at one of his election campaigns, Bartomeu said, “By 2021,we want Barcelona to be to football what NASA is to space research and what Facebook is to Social Media.”

“Barcelona aims to create a base to support the athletes and the coaches and simultaneously strengthen women’s sport. We want to be global leader,” said Bartomeu.

Bartomeu, also added, “Our third sporting point will be the creation of observatory and a University of FC Barcelona at Espai Barca, teaching students sporting and footballing culture”.

Bartameu succeeded Sandro Rossel as the club’s president and will contest the election again on 18 July.
