While Lewis Hamilton is busy focusing on the upcoming race in Austria, speculation about his future with Mercedes still continues. The 6-times world champion’s contract with the Silver Arrows ends in 2020.

Last month, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had revealed that they would be conducting contract talks with Hamilton as soon as he re-joins the team. However, after reports emerged that Hamilton was not happy with what was being offered to him, Wolff came out and said that talks haven’t even been initiated as of yet.

The Silver Arrows team principal, Toto Wolff, told Autosport.com that Lewis and Mercedes haven’t had any sort of contract talks thus far. He said, “All the things that are out there about contract negotiations, whether him demanding a hilariously high salary or me saying it’s only 50% of that, they are all made up.”

However, the Mercedes boss believes that when the contract talks will be conducted, both parties would be pleased. He said, “We haven’t had a single conversation about money. It’s sometimes weird to read this stuff in the press when you know it’s just all nonsense. Lewis Is very aware of the financial realities of the auto industry and about Formula 1. In the same way, I’m very respectful of his achievements and his class. Therefore, it’s going to lead to I think a satisfactory outcome for us all.”

Toto Wolff’s statement about refuting any contract talks, come only a couple of days after Hamilton himself, addressed this on his social media.

Any contract negotiations would now step to the side, as the season gets underway today. Both Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton would have their goals for the season outlined. The Silver Arrows would be looking to get their hands on yet another Constructors’ championship title. Whereas, Hamilton would want to win his 7th Drivers’ championship crown and draw level with Michael Schumacher’s record.
