The draws for Australian Open 2019 have officially been released and there are several interesting matchups. The Big four will definitely be participating and the first round itself has provided mouth-watering clashes. Both the men’s and women’s draw have been released, but for now, we are focusing on the men’s draw.
Blockbuster Opening Rounds

Australian Open 2019 has thrown up a number of interesting first round matches. Nick Kyrgios will take on Milos Raonic, in a match that will have some booming serves. Dominic Thiem will take on the showman Benoit Paire, in his first round. Tomas Berdych vs Kyle Edmund, is yet another mouth watering clash in the first round. Andy Murray will take on Roberto Bautista Agut, who took out Novak Djokovic and Berdych to win the first title of the year. Marin Cilic will take on Australian Bernard Tomic, in what promises to be an enticing affair. Stan Wawrinka will take on the unpredictable Ernest Gulbis in his first round. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev will go up against Aljaz Bedene.
The Serbian player and World number 1 arguably has the easiest draw of the lot. However he is set to face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the second round. Other stars in his side of the draw include, Denis Shapovalov, David Goffin, Daniil Medvedev, Fabio Fognini, Pablo Carreno Busta, Philipp Kohlscheiber and Kei Nishikori. Djokovic’s opening round match will be against one of the qualifiers while Tsonga will play against Martin Klizan. Shapovalov will battle Pablo Andujar and Goffin will face Christian Garin. Another player that Djokovic could possibly meet is the big-serving Ivo Karlovic.
Roger Federer
Swiss tennis ace, Roger Federer also has a reasonably difficult draw, going up against Denis Istomin in his opening round. For those who do not remeber, Istomin was the one who took out Novak Djokovic in the very first round in 5 thrilling sets. Also, in Round 3, Federer could square off against the French showman- Gael Monfils. Other big names in Federer’s section include Nikoloz Basilashvili, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Karen Khachanov, Roberto Bautista Agut and Marin Cilic, whom he may meet in the quarters. It is also believed, according to rough estimates that the fans can brace for a Federer-Nadal semifinal at Australian Open 2019. Another match to watch out for is Federer vs Murray, since both of them are in the same draw. The two could likely meet in the quarterfinals of Australian Open 2019. Tsitsipas will be a tough opponent because he is no stranger to giant-killing, having defeated Novak Djokovic before.

Rafael Nadal
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal has his work cut out for him as he faces one of the toughest draws. His draw boasts of the likes of Alex de Minaur and Diego Schwartzman, either of whom, he could meet in Round 3. Other tough opponents include Tomas Berdych, Kyle Edmund, John Isner, Grigor Dimitrov, Steve Johnson and Kevin Anderson.
