The Paris Olympics is about to conclude after an impressive run of athletes showing their brilliance in various sports. Each country selected its best athletes to have a better chance at a medal. While Team USA also sent their best players in Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, Taylor Fritz, and more they couldn’t make an impression as strong as others. Taking a dig at their performance, former American legend Andy Roddick drops his opinion on the matter.
In the recent episode of his podcast Serving with Andy Roddick, the former American star talked about Team USA’s performance in the Olympics. He had higher expectations from his country’s people. However, he was disappointed when none of them could manage to secure a medal. “I have favored the women on Tennis Channel live, I think they asked me that question three weeks ago, and I just said, listen Gauff and Pegula, doubles the whole situation. You would have probably bet on the US women. So they have to be a little bit disappointed,” Roddick said.
Roddick’s comment highlighted Gauff and Pegula’s loss in the second round against Czech Republican Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova. Despite being two top seeds in tennis, they lost before securing any medal in the doubles. Roddick also mentioned how Navarro and Collins’ performances disappointed him as he believed these two would bring glory to the Team USA in the Olympics.

Navarro, who was a debutante at the Paris Olympics, lost to Qinwen Zheng in the third round and bid adieu to her dream of winning a medal. On the other hand, the Miami Open winner retired during her match against Iga Swiatek. She felt dehydrated and suffered cramps, following which Collins decided to retire from the quarterfinals. Collins and Navarro both disheartened Roddick as he expected from the team.

The former American ATP star further said, “Such is life, such is sports. Nothing scripted, no guarantees, that’s why it’s the best reality show in the world” for Team USA. Although he was saddened by the loss of the women who stepped up, he found a wholesome moment that lives large in his mind after tennis was concluded at the Game.

While Roddick’s frustration about his country’s team was visible, he took a moment to compliment Tomas Machac and Katerina Siniakova for winning a gold medal in the mixed doubles of the Paris Olympics. Referring to their separation rumors and their post-victory kiss, Roddick said, “When I was reading about it going in, they were together. When I was reading reports midway through was like they broke up before the tournament, they’re smooching at the end after winning gold. I mean, to be fair like, I think I would smooch any partner I had if I won a gold medal, so props to them.”
Coco Gauff, Emma Navarro, Jessica Pegula, and Danielle Collins’ performance at the Paris Olympics might not be up to the mark, but all four tried their best to uphold their country’s pride with better performance. However, not all the days are the same for everyone. Keeping that in mind, people hope Team USA to unleash their magic in LA 2028.
