The official Twitter page of the Tennis Channel recently shared the news about Rohan Bopanna becoming the oldest first-time World No. 1 on the men’s tour. The Tennis Channel tweeted, “Congrats to 🇮🇳 Rohan Bopanna, who on Monday will become the new World No. 1 in doubles! The 43-year-old becomes the oldest first-time World No. 1 on the men’s side 👏”
While retweeting the post, the American tennis legend also congratulated the 43-year-old player for his ‘unreal’ achievement. She stated, “Unreal! Well done Rohan!!!”

The 43-year-old player is teamed up with the Aussie Matthew Ebden as they started their Grand Slam campaign by defeating James Duckworth and Marc Polmans. In the second round, Bopann and Ebden overcame another Aussie duo, John Millman and Edward Winter, with a score of 6-2, 6-4. The second-seeded duo then brushed aside Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektić to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
At the Margaret Court Arena, Bopann and Ebden have now defeated the sixth-seeded Argentine team, Máximo González and Andrés Molteni, with a score of 6-4, 7-6. The second-seeded duo will now lock horns with Zhang Zhizhen and Tomas Machac for a place in the title match.
