Zendaya to Show Her Talent on a Tennis Court With Her Latest Film ‘Challengers’

Tennis is strongly connected with the film industry. Over the years, there have been many films based on this sport that have gone on to become massive hits at the box office. Further, take the example of King Richard. The movie, based on Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, was well accepted by fans across the globe. Recently, a new tennis movie was announced. It has multi-talented actress, Zendaya, starring in it.

Zendaya’s new film alongside Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist

The American actress announced her next project which is a romantic tennis film. It is a movie from Call Me By Your Name director, Luca Guadagnino. Additionally, the movie will also have Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist starring in it.

According to Variety, “The film centers on the competitive world of pro tennis, in which player-turned-coach Tashi (Zendaya) has transformed her husband Art (Faist) into a Grand Slam champion. After a losing streak, Tashi enters him into a “Challenger” event — the lowest pro tournament level — where he must face off against Patrick (O’Connor), Tashi’s former boyfriend and his former best friend.”

Further, the cast of the film ‘Challengers’ is currently shooting in Boston. The movie will be out in 2023. Moreover, after the immense success of ‘King Richard’, Zendaya’s film will be aiming to replicate its success.

Apart from critical acclamation, Venus and Serena Williams’ backed King Richard clinched several honors at the award functions. Earlier this year, the movie also won an Oscar. Will Smith, who played the lead role of Richard Williams, received that award for the Best Actor.

Last month, the American actress starred on the cover of TIME 100 – The World’s Most Influential People. Subsequently, expressing her emotions at this great honor, she said, “A great honor. Thank you @TIME for this acknowledgment, and to Denis for his kind words. This means the world to me.”
