Frances Tiafoe has always mentioned that the Williams sisters have played an enormous role in his career. Recently, Tiafoe became the first man after Andy Roddick (2006-2008) to reach three consecutive QF in the US Open. Shortly after completing this historic triumph with a win against Alexei Popyrin, the American tennis star revealed how Serena Williams inspired him to bring the best out of himself on the court.
He said, that the ‘Queen of the Court’ told him that she wanted nothing but the best for him. “It’s crazy seeing her not playing. It’s still wild. But I mean, you know, for her wanting to come out and talk to me before the match, telling me she’s always following no matter what.” Tiafoe further went on to add, “Telling me ‘it’s so good to see now that I’m done, you’re the guy of color playing and doing well.’ I’m, like, coming from her, that’s a loud sentence. I’m, like, damn. That’s really, really cool that she sees me as that.”
The 26-year-old expressed his extreme level of happiness through his words and expressions. He was quite pleased to have such kind of conversation with a person like Williams before the match. “I don’t think it will hit me like that if anybody else said it to me,” Tiafoe admitted. Is ‘Big Foe’ really a big fan of Williams? Well, there shouldn’t be any more questions about this, though! However, if you still have any doubts, here are some of the glimpses of his previous statement surrounding his admiration for the G.O.A.T.

Frances Tiafoe's US Open win: A new era for American tennis, thanks to Serena's support?
Have an interesting take?
Remember the clash from 2019, when Serena Williams and Tiafoe teamed up for a mixed double match (Battle of the Legends) against Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic at the Hopman Cup? From seeing them on the TV screen and telling his dad, “Two people who look like me and I can go and do that, it’s unbelievable” to get the chance to play with them. ‘Big Foe’ has come a long way!
He now feels it’s quite “crazy” to call them “friends.” Can Tiafoe carry forward the legacy of American men’s tennis by emulating two of the G.O.A.Ts in the women’s division? Well, he once admitted, “I kind of want to emulate that in my way. I don’t think I am where I am without those two (Williams sisters).” According to him, it’d be a “damn good career” only if he can somehow get his name in the “same sentence as those two.” Do you think Frances Tiafoe has a real chance in this year’s US Open?
