Sport, as in life, has its fair share of ups and downs. And who better to testify to that fact than the enigmatic Paula Badosa? An unexpected semi-final defeat against Aryna Sabalenka saw Badosa crash out from the ongoing Australian Open earlier in yesterday’s semifinal match. Devastating right? The heartbreak was apparent, as a disappointed Badosa found herself seated with a somber expression in the tunnel immediately after the match ended. However, while that match may have crushed her title hopes, it definitely didn’t crush her spirit. And a certain Stefanos Tsitsipas might just be the reason why.

After a Round of 32 defeat at the Brisbane International and a Round of 16 loss at the Adelaide International, the Spaniard started her AO journey with a banger. Only dropping one set (in the third round against Marta Kostyuk) till her SF clash, the world No.12 posted a scintillating start, winning nearly all her matches in straight sets. However, her SF match against Sabalenka did not go as planned as the Belarusian thrashed her 6-4, 6-2. But putting the disappointment aside, she concluded her journey at this year’s AO with an eloquent and resilient post.

Just after the match, Paula Badosa posted a carousel of images on her Instagram and quoted, “Life has a way of throwing challenges our way, testing our strength and determination. But it’s in those tough moments that we discover what we’re truly made of. Overcoming adversity isn’t just about enduring—it’s about growing, evolving, and coming out stronger than we ever imagined. I’ve learned to see the beauty in the journey, even the parts that felt impossible at the time. Those struggles shaped me, taught me resilience, and deepened my gratitude for every success and small victory that followed. They also helped me appreciate the incredible people in my life—the ones who supported me, believed in me, and stood by me when I needed them most.” But there’s more to the story.

She further added, “Now, I find myself soaking in every moment, big and small, realizing how precious this journey is. Success isn’t just about the destination—it’s about every step, every lesson, and every connection along the way. For that, I’m endlessly grateful. Thank you @australianopen for the amazing support and memories. As I always say, I’ll comeback stronger. 💙”. And, just as she posted, her smitten beau extended his support to the Spaniard. “You don’t just play tennis. You play life, and you’re winning at both. ❤️” he responded in the comments.

Tsitsipas, since his shock exit from this year’s AO in R1 against Alex Michelsen, has been a constant support for his beloved from the player’s box. But crucially, do you remember Badosa’s third-round match against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk? Despite later admitting that the outburst was not intended for Tsitsipas, fans were delighted to witness the exchange between the endearing couple.

Badosa revealed how Tsitsipas helped her during Kostyuk battle

The Greek star’s support for Paula Badosa was constant throughout the tournament. In her third-round match against Marta, the Spaniard first got into trouble in the second set and found herself down 0-5. Badosa was unable to deal with the Melbourne wind in the Show Court Arena. However, Stefanos played his part from the stand there as well, making “Calm down” gestures while the camera showed Badosa turned to her team, voicing her frustration with hand gestures. Shortly after the match, the Spaniard shed light on her beloved’s support.
