“Maybe I should quit,” Paula Badosa thought amid her injury struggles earlier this season. Once a World Number 2 player, the Spanish beauty nearly left the sport at just 26. Badosa was having a tough time with her injuries and an inconsistent run of form. Nonetheless, her boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas always stood beside her and motivated Badosa to come back stronger. It eventually worked wonders as she went on to reach her maiden US Open quarterfinal. As Badosa finds an uptick in her form, she made a candid confession about the support she received from Tsitsipas.
Badosa and Tsitsipas have been one of the most adorable couples in the sporting world lately. The two never shy away from talking about their partners. During an interview ahead of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Spain, Badosa made a heartfelt revelation about Tsitsipas’ support during tough times.
She said, “I’ll never forget it. I wasn’t doing well, I wasn’t where I wanted to be. And I told him: I think I’m going to retire this year, I don’t see myself going back to that. And he looked at me with a face like I was crazy and said: ‘You’re going to be back in the top 10 soon’. I looked at him and said: ‘You love me a lot (laughs).”

After the highs of the 2022 season where she reached the second spot in the WTA rankings, it was a steep downfall for the Spaniard. She suffered from a chronic back problem that threatened to end her career prematurely. To make matters worse, she even dropped out of the top 50 of the WTA rankings.
Expressing her downfall, Badosa said, “The low point for me was at the middle of the season. It was really bad. Coming from the injury in the beginning, you never know what to expect. At the beginning of the season I was OK, but after all seeing that I was struggling also with my back, it wasn’t responding well. My results weren’t what I was expecting in that moment. So it was really bad.”
