This year’s Wimbledon so far has not just been about players chasing new records or delivering incredible performances on the court. Apart from the usual battles between the titans of tennis, the All England Club has also witnessed some incredible moments off the court this year. The grand welcome of the record 8-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer on Day 2 of the championships is a moment that no tennis fan can easily forget. But the saga of celebrating icons at SW19 didn’t end with Federer.
The legendary BBC presenter and former tennis player Sue Barker was greeted by the Centre Court crowd in a similar fashion on the sixth day of the coveted event.

Iconic television host Sue Barker was synonymous with BBC’s Wimbledon coverage. The 67-year-old presided over the event for over 30 years, and the fans loved every moment of her presence for all these years. She was rightfully deemed as the face of Wimbledon for BBC, and therefore, it came as a shock to thousands of fans when she decided to retire from her position at the end of last year’s Wimbledon.
Her broadcast colleague Clare Balding took over the reins as the lead presenter from this year’s edition. As reported by the Express, Sue Barker returned to Centre Court this year amid much fanfare, as the legendary broadcaster was given a heartwarming reception by the crowd after the organizers displayed a touching video montage as a tribute to her famed career.

Her iconic broadcasting career often overshadows her achievements as a player – she won 15 singles titles, including the 1976 French Open crown. This makes her all the more connected to the hearts of so many tennis fans. The incredible ovation and applause she received is reminiscent of the one received by Roger Federer just a few days back on his return to the royal box on Centre Court.
