Spain’s Paula Badosa rightfully proved that she is a warrior. Badosa earned her career’s fourth WTA 500 title by defeating Czech Republican Marie Bouzkova by 6-1, 4-6, and 6-4 yesterday in Washington DC. This Spaniard tennis player who ranked as high as no 2 in the world, suffered a major setback last year due to a stress fracture. She was sidelined from the professional tours for six months. Not only that but Badosa also revealed about suffering immensely from chronic back pain after winning her third-round match at Wimbledon 2024 against Daria Kasatkina.

In fact, Badosa’s stress fracture was one of the results of her chronic back pain. Following her injury, this victory at the DC Open was impressive and truly inspirational for many athletes. Badosa’s talented tennis player boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas, was one of those athletes who felt his girlfriend deserved applause for returning to the professional court with such a marvelous victory. Tsitsipas tweeted, sharing WTA’s clip of Badosa’s post-victory moment at Mubadala Open, and wrote, “Shut the front door. 👑” This message clearly conveyed the Greek ATP star’s admiration for his girlfriend’s tennis talent.

Along with Tsitsipas, almost the whole tennis fraternity understood what a skilled player Badosa is. This Spanish tennis player’s journey to this victory wasn’t smooth. Not to forget how her chronic back pain forced her to retire from Wimbledon 2023 and remain off the court for the rest of the season. According to Punto de Break, Badosa said, “There are days when I feel worse than others, but it’s manageable. There are other days when it’s tough, but I also control a lot of the tournaments I play, the days I train and the days I have off. I like going to the gym, I like working hard, but there are days when I can’t do that. So I’m managing it very well. I may take more days off than I would like, but that’s the only way.” Given the past, Badosa’s incredible victory at the DC Open has surely left everyone in awe.

Tsitsipas’ reaction to Badosa’s latest feat has warmed the hearts of many. After taking a break for some time, the duo rekindled their love during the Madrid Open and showed their strength together. Despite losing against Djokovic at a previous tournament, Tsitsipas sidelined his feelings to celebrate his girlfriend’s win. If this isn’t a lovely display of love, then what is? After securing her career’s fifth WTA title, Badosa said, “Especially what I went through the last year, for me being back, winning big titles like a 500, winning the best players this the world, being competing against them again, for me it means a lot, That’s why I had this mix of emotions. I was really, really nervous because I really wanted it really bad.”

Badosa’s post-victory message expressed her oozing confidence after securing such a big feat. She further said, “One year ago I was on the couch, so it’s a big difference now. Now I’m an athlete again.” Given that her her chronic back injury pushed her tennis career into darkness, this Mubadala Open victory appeared like a ray of hope for players like Badosa who thrive on their passion for tennis.
