In the realm of tennis, every fan knows about the American tennis legend, Serena Williams’ struggle with postpartum complication. But did you know that Andre Agassi’s ex-wife also went through a challenging postpartum period with her first child and battled a lot with herself?

Andre Agassi married Brooke Shields in 1997. Within two years, the couple split and married other famous personalities. While Agassi found his soulmate in fellow tennis legend Steffi Graf, Shields married renowned Hollywood director Chris Henchy.

Andre Agassi’s ex-wife opened up about her struggle with postpartum depression

In her documentary, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, the 57-year-old American actress, talked about her life and detailed into her problems rising up as an actor, and her personal life. And in that documentary, she openly talked about her negative feelings during the post-pregnancy depression phase that drowned her in depression as a mother.

After an early separation from the 8-time Grand Slam champion, Shields got married to her now-husband Chris Henchy, and after many attempts, she welcomed her daughter Rowan. Yet, after giving birth to her daughter, she felt an acute and inexplicable depression while trying to care for her child.

She shared the violent thoughts that were in her head during that depression phase. She said, “That turned into, oh my god, all of these violent things are gonna happen to her. And I would see her little body just hurled at the wall. And just lie down, slum down, I wasn’t throwing her. I wasn’t the one, but what kind of mother has these thoughts? I am supposed to wanna live, breathe, sleep with her.”

However, Shields is not the only one who has been through the depressing phase after giving birth. Williams once talked about her difficult period of not being enough for her daughter just a year after giving birth.

When Williams opened up about postpartum emotions 

The post-pregnancy challenges for the American tennis legend were considerably more significant than giving birth to a child. In 2018, the former world number one shared via her Instagram account how there was a time when she thought she had failed as a mother. Also, she opened up about how she communicates to get over the postpartum depression phase, and discussed how postpartum feelings are a real issue that affect several women.

Likewise, she discussed how it was completely normal to feel like you weren’t doing enough for your baby. And how, like any other typical stay-at-home mother or working mother out there, she tried to give her 100% in both her roles as an athlete and a mother. Last but not least, 270 days after giving birth, the anxious American tennis legend made an amazing comeback, but she never forgot about her child as she penned a powerful message for her.
