Iconic TV presenter and former tennis player Sue Barker left all tennis enthusiasts heartbroken when she announced her retirement from broadcast television during last year’s Wimbledon. Barker has been at the helm of BBC’s Wimbledon coverage for the past 30 years. So much was the 1976 French Open winner’s impact and popularity as a presenter that she became the face and voice of Wimbledon, and almost synonymous with the coverage of the event.
As Sue Barker steps down, Clare Balding, who worked as a reporter and commentator for BBC for a long time, is set to take over as the lead presenter of BBC’s Wimbledon coverage. With Balding taking charge of things, her position as the presenter of the ‘Today at Wimbledon’ segment becomes vacant. This is exactly where a multifaceted ‘tennis geek’ Qasa Alom comes in.
