Is Djokovic's favoritism at Wimbledon unfairly costing other players their chances? What do you think?

Day 8 at Wimbledon is set to be quite engaging for American fans. Danielle Collins, possibly exploring the last season of her professional career, is just one step away from making it to the quarter-finals. Along with wishing for “some more success” at Wimbledon, Collins also wanted to “play on Centre Court in a singles match.” While this goal was fulfilled for Lulu Sun, who played against Emma Raducanu, the American veteran will have to wait.

Danielle Collins has made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon 2024, marking her deepest run in this prestigious tournament. The WTA star stunned her rivals one after another without dropping a set. She defeated Clara Tauson, Dalma Galfi, and Beatriz Haddad Maia, and is now looking ahead.

This impressive run through notable competitors has given her strength, and she has expressed an item from her bucket list.“I’ve gone far in other Slams but not here. I’m really excited about having some more success here. It’s a goal of mine to be able to play on Centre Court in a singles match. I have yet to do that. So I’m just trying to ride this thing out until I can play on Centre Court,” Collins said.

However, the Centre Court schedule for today begins at 1:30 PM with a Ladies’ Singles match between Elena Rybakina and Anna Kalinskaya. Soon after, American ATP star Taylor Fritz is set to face Alexander Zverev in a Gentlemen’s Singles match. The remaining slot was allotted to the highly anticipated match between Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic.

The Serb has a chance to match Roger Federer’s legendary record this time. With seven Wimbledon titles already in his portfolio, he needs just one more to become the fans’ favorite pick. It appears that Danielle Collins will have to wait longer to achieve her goal of playing singles on this prestigious court. With Djokovic chosen instead of her, her chances of playing on Centre Court are reduced.

Before Danielle Collins, American ATP star Ben Shelton expressed his desire to play on Centre Court. He was scheduled to play the round of 16 match against Jannik Sinner and thought it could be his opportunity to fulfill his dream. However, Coco Gauff, being a more popular pick for the prestigious court, took his place.

The young American faced Emma Navarro in an All-American showdown that attracted significant attention and was conducted on Centre Court. Shelton was defeated by Jannik Sinner, and his dream of playing on Centre Court was postponed for at least another year. Danielle Collins finds herself in a similar situation. To achieve her dream, she will need more than just her regular skills.
