The ‘Super Brat‘ of the tennis world is back in his style! American tennis legend John McEnroe was the mercurial tennis star of the late 70s and 80s who was also known for his outbursts on the court. During his playing days, he was often seen engaging in heated debate with the umpires and smashing racquets. It has been almost 18 years since he officially retired from all forms of professional tennis, but still, it seems as if he hasn’t forgotten some of his ‘favorite habits’. Recently, Alex de Minaur & Katie Boulter booked a front seat for the McEnroe show.

In March this year, FX and CFD broker Pepperstone announced a partnership with the former world number one and 7-time Grand Slam champion, John McEnroe. He joined the company as a Global Tennis Ambassador. Alex de Minaur was already an ambassador for Pepperstone at that time. After joining the company, the 69-year-old tennis legend stated, “I couldn’t ask for a better doubles partner than Pepperstone. They’ve got a history of supporting tennis, and they’re clearly as passionate about the future of the sport as I am.”

He was spotted recently doing a commercial with the company along with Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter. Perhaps the long-haired ‘lad‘ with a red hair band on his head tried to revisit those iconic moments. Pepperstone uploaded a few moments from that ad where McEnroe was seen smashing a wooden racquet. They captioned, “Well, that was awkward…@alexdeminaur and @katiecboulter were not fine with Mac smashing a perfectly good racket.” Boulter later on shared that post and wrote, “Why would I smash a perfectly good racket? @alexdeminaur and I were not fine with this.

John McEnroe and Alex de Minaur have been in the headlines on many occasions in the past. Mostly, it was for McEnore’s comments on the Australian tennis star. Once he was also a bit confused with the nickname of Alex de Minaur (The Demon), he even expressed his curiosity for the origin of that name to his fellow commentator, Woodbridge. Don’t know if McEnroe loves this name or not but he surely loves the Australian’s game!

During an interview with Channel Nine, the American tennis legend revealed, “There are very few guys that come along that play with that intensity, that effort that Alex de Minaur plays with.” He believes Alex de Minaur always gives 100% and thinks every single point like it’s the last point. Once he also said, “I mean, the guy’s coming along for sure [as a future] top-10 player, possibly, to me, a multiple grand slam winner if he can fill out a little bit more.” His predictions were partly right; now he’s entered the Top 10 in men’s singles and currently, Alex de Mianur is ranked 9th in the world.

A champion is making? Well, John McEnroe will surely get more than 50% marks for this prediction. How much will he get for providing free lessons on how to throw a tennis racquet without breaking it? His ‘commitment’ to the sport is undeniable! Once during an interview, he elaborated on how to hold a racquet perfectly in order to get one’s point across without any significant damage to the weaponry. Extraordinary player with some extraordinary skills? Well, you decide! We don’t want to come in the bad books of the ‘Super Brat‘!
