Is Gael Monfils the unsung hero behind Elina Svitolina's Wimbledon success?

Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina are a match made in heaven. Since 2021, the year the two tied the knot, the couple has been an inspiration to their followers, balancing professional and personal life remarkably well. Despite their busy schedules, they never fail to support each other. After losing his match against Dimitrov, Monfils continued to shower dedication on his wife, Elina!

Ukrainian Svitolina defeated Tunisian Ons Jabeur in Wimbledon’s third round yesterday. Post-victory, she made a heartwarming confession about how her husband has been a great support in her career. “Today was a bit of a different story for our family. It was really disappointing that Gael lost but I feel like Grigor played unbelievable. I was a little bit inspired by his performance yesterday.”

Some tennis matches transcend mere competition, becoming an exhibition of pure athletic brilliance. The clash between Grigor Dimitrov and Gael Monfils was one such spectacle, a neutral’s delight. Dimitrov ultimately emerged victorious (6-3, 6-4, 6-3), snapping a 10-year winless streak against the Frenchman. Despite his recent heartbreak, he attended Svitolina’s match to cheer her on. His support seemed to work like a charm as Svitolina defeated last year’s Wimbledon finalist 6-1, 7-6(4) in a grueling 1 hour and 20 minutes match.

When asked about “How good was it having Gael up there today?” Svitolina let people know of her raw emotions. “With Gael’s support today, it’s really amazing to have him next to me. Always supporting. Always being there for me. It’s special.”

The world has watched with interest as Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils’ romance blossomed since 2019. Married since 2021, Svitolina confirmed that they “try to watch each other’s matches” whenever possible. Earlier in July this year, she mentioned how “it’s nice to see each other cheering.” She further delved into the subject and said, “So when we get a chance and when we know that it’s not like clashing with each other’s preparation or recovery, we try to do our best.”

Beyond the roar of the crowd, Gael Monfils serves as a rock for Elina Svitolina off the court. Their partnership extends far beyond the baseline, as they welcomed their daughter, Skai, in 2022. Monfils has been a devoted father, and together they’ve mastered the art of balancing parenthood with their elite tennis careers. They often travel as a family, creating a support system that empowers both Svitolina and Monfils to shine on the court.

Svitolina’s Roland Garros run this year wasn’t just about personal victory. After a dominant third-round win over Diane Parry, the Ukrainian star used her post-match platform to rally support for her husband, Gael Monfils. Her joy at winning was evident, but a poignant message for her beloved husband underscored her celebration.

“We don’t know how many years we’re still gonna be playing both on tour,” Svitolina shared, acknowledging the fleeting nature of their athletic careers. Appealing to the French crowd, she urged them to cheer not just for her, but for Monfils too, highlighting the importance of their support for his upcoming match. “I enjoy watching him and hopefully we will see you all tonight with mainstream support, it’s much needed for him.” While Monfils’ presence delights fans, there is an unknown supporter of Elina!
