It can’t get better for Tsitsidosa fans, can it? While Paula Badosa is flying high at the US Open, she will partner her boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas, later in the day in their mixed doubles first-round match. Earlier today, the Spanish tennis beauty won a grueling three-set match against Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania. In a match lasting over two and a half hours, Badosa won crucial points in the match tiebreaker to prevail 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8). However, she isn’t done for the day yet and will be seen in action in the mixed doubles. But here lies the question, does Badosa have the legs to play the tie after an exhausting singles match? Well, she feels so.
During the post-match interview, Paula Badosa was asked about her opening-round match in mixed doubles with her boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas. When asked about how she would prepare for the encounter after a tough singles match on the same day, the Spaniard revealed, “I don’t know but I had a long match now and I was even thinking like Stef is watching and thinking, ‘Oh now she will be tired in the mixed doubles.’ But he would have to do all the work today (laughs). No, I will have good lunch and of course it will help me so much. Also the motivation and the excitement will help me go through it and I really can’t wait playing with the big guy.”

Interestingly, this will be the first time that Badosa and Tsitsipas will share the court at a Grand Slam tournament. They were set to play mixed doubles at the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships but held off their plans due to Badosa not being 100% fit. However, with Badosa on the top of her game now, it won’t be a surprise if they lift the title in New York. And as Badosa mentioned earlier this week, she already has a ‘champion’ partner.
Paula Badosa on her boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas: ‘He will always be a champion’
While Badosa is still active in the singles competition, Tsitsipas faced a shocking exit. The Greek star lost against Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round of the tournament. Despite being the 11th seed and the favorite to win the match, Tsitsipas could only take a set off his Australian opponent before succumbing to defeat. Nonetheless, Paula Badosa remained proud of Tsitsipas’ achievements and made a huge revelation about him.

During an interview, she said, “We’re looking forward to it, it’s really nice to share the court together. We spend time off court, but also on court. It’s really special in a Slam. It’s like a dream come true. Big shout out to him. He’s going through tough moments – but he’s a champion and he will always be a champion.”
Paula Badosa has often talked about how her boyfriend positively impacted her game. She learned a lot about the game from him, by her own admission. As the two grace the court later today, they will face the Mexican pairing of Giuliana Olmos and Santiago Gonzalez. Tsitsidosa fans will be hoping for a positive result. What do you think?
