While Serena Williams bid adieu to tennis after the US Open, Federer still has a tournament to play. The Swiss maestro will play the last match of his professional tennis career at the Laver Cup. Recently, tennis legend John McEnroe revealed why these two legends of the sport shouldn’t make a return to tennis.
John McEnroe talks about the potential comebacks of Serena Williams and Roger Federer
During an interview, American tennis legend, John McEnroe opened up about the comebacks of Serena and Roger Federer. He said, “Both of these superstars and legends can do whatever they want. To me when you announce retirement, you should retire.”
Taking the example of other athletes, he said, “But you look at other athletes and they come back and they think, ‘hey I just played well I can still win’ so that’s really up to them.”
Further, he went on to add, “Of course, we want to see them play forever but it feels like when you make those type of announcements it’s right to say, ‘this is the way it should end’. I think it would be better for all concerned.”?

John McEnroe to captain Team World at the 2022 Laver Cup
The 63-year-old was announced the captain of the Team World at this year’s Laver Cup. His team boasts young stars like Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz, and Frances Tiafoe. Additionally, he will also have the likes of Diego Schwartzman, Alex de Minaur, and Jack Sock at his disposal.
