It seems like the entire tennis fraternity is stuck on a particular topic since the end of Roland Garros. No, it is not the upcoming grass swing that has been the point of discussion. The new power couple Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa have been grabbing all the headlines recently. Despite being in the early stages of their relationship, the duo has provided plenty of content for the fans.

While there has been speculation about how the pair would adapt to each other, a former tennis player emphasized the upside and downsides of the same sports relationship. John Lloyd, the ex-husband of Chris Evert spoke at length on this topic.

For someone with prior experience in the same sports relationship, John Lloyd made some valid points for the new couple. At first, the Briton evaluated the downside. He said via Tennis Channel, “If you’re in the sport, it can be a bit of a lonely life on the tour when you’re traveling apart. It’s not the easiest to get on with because you both want your careers to be successful too.”. Lloyd refers to the time when ATP and WTA events are held in different countries and the players would be forced to travel alone.

He then focused on the advantages and said, “Tennis players, we’re selfish beasts. But the great thing about it is that you’ve got a relationship with someone who exactly understands what you’re going through. There are things you say to your loved one after they win or after they lose. If you are not in the game, you could just say the wrong things.“. The mental aspect of the relationship was very neatly evaluated by the former tennis player.

This piece of advice came from Lloyd’s personal experience as he went through the highs and lows of same-sport marriage during his time with Chris Evert.
