World no.1 Iga Swiatek is currently going through a lot of changes in her life, both good and bad. While on one hand her new partnership with Roger Federer‘s brand On has gotten her fans excited, her withdrawal from the Miami Open and the Billie Jean King Cup has also upset them. Iga’s deal with On comes at a great time for her since she is in her best shape ever this season. Nonetheless, that still leaves a lot of gray area as to how Swiatek got the grand endorsement considering she’s never met the Maestro herself. Iga’s fans were also waiting to hear from her regarding this sponsorship, and she decided to settle their doubts once and for all.
Recently, the WTA icon opened up about her deal with Federer’s sportswear brand. Although it is clear as to why On chose Iga for their campaign, the Pole star’s side of the story is equally important. Coupled with that is her recent withdrawal from the upcoming tournaments owing to a nasty rib injury. Hence, the 2022 US Open champ decided to address all questions once and for all.

Swiatek’s sponsorship with On was just announced a day ago, causing the tennis world to pick up on the frenzy. Although the American ATP icon Ben Shelton has also been endorsed by the same brand, Iga steals the limelight with all the recent major events that have circled her life on and off the court.
However, surprisingly, her association with On is not the result of her friendship with the Maestro himself. In fact, truth be told, they have never met each other due to certain unfortunate circumstances. When asked about it, Swiatek had a really interesting reply.

She bluntly stated, “No, we didn’t talk at the beginning. We actually have never met because when I started playing on tour, he struggled with injuries. I didn’t have a chance to do that.” Clearing all doubts, she said, “But, well, I think the process was, like, pretty normal. They reach out to me and to my agents, and we just talked.”
From coming so close to the Indian Wells dream, where she lost to the eventual champion Rybakina, to signing an endorsement with On and then deciding to put her well-being before success on the court, Swiatek is really going through some life-changing events. With her much-awaited comeback on clay later this season, it will definitely be interesting to see how this sponsorship affects her career.
