The US Open is one of the four major tournaments in a season. Held annually in New York, the tournament began 142 years ago in 1881. Back then, grass courts were the main surface, like Wimbledon. Then it adopted the clay court for two years and eventually adapted to hard courts, which is the surface for the slam today. 

The tournament will once again be played in New York this season from August 28th to September 10th. The qualifying rounds will begin on 22nd August and the final draws will be revealed on 24th August. Fans eager for the tournament will want to be up to date with the following schedule of the championship.

Men’s and women’s single schedule at the US Open 2023

As it is with most tennis championships, the singles events are the most anticipated events. The US Open will be no different. Players like Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, Daniil Medvedev, Aryna Sabalenka and more will fight for their right to lift the trophy.

Novak Djokovic will also make a return to the tournament after his absence in 2022.

The top-seeded players will get a bye, but the women’s and men’s singles action will begin on August 28th. The second round will begin on August 30th, followed by the third and the fourth rounds on September 1st and September 3rd, respectively.

From the 5th, the final rounds will start with the quarterfinals. The women’s semifinal will take place on September 7th, and the men’s semifinal will be held on September 8th. The culmination of the championships will take place on September 9th for women’s singles and on 10th for men’s singles. 

Men’s and women’s doubles schedule at the US Open 2023

Although it doesn’t generate the same level of viewership, the doubles division of tennis is viewed by millions of fans around the world. Doubles brings a different level of tennis to the court, which is enjoyable in its own manner. The US Open doubles division for men and women will have a similar schedule as the singles bouts.

The first round for men’s and women’s doubles will commence on August 30th. It will be followed by round two on September 1st and the third round on September 3rd. After that, players will jump into the quarterfinals on September 5th. The schedule changes a bit for the men’s semifinals as it will be held on the 7th as opposed to the women’s semifinals on the 8th.

As per the US Open official website, the schedule is somewhat unclear for the finals. On September 8th, either men’s doubles finals will be played or the mixed doubles finals. Similarly, the main event for the 9th is either the mixed doubles finals or the men’s doubles finals. Women’s doubles finals have no such confusion as it is scheduled for September 10th. 

Men’s and women’s wheelchair singles and doubles schedule at the US Open 2023

A delightful addition to tennis over time has been the inclusion of wheelchair players. The wheelchair division in tennis has risen in popularity over the years, and many viewers eagerly wait for the commencement of the division as well.

There are two divisions of wheelchair tennis, Open and Quad. The Open classification is for those players who have permanent impairment in their lower limbs. Quad division is for those players who have impairment in the lower and upper limbs, which restricts their movement further.

The Open wheelchair singles for men’s and women’s singles will begin on September 5th, along with Quad wheelchair singles. On September 6th, both divisions will play their quarterfinal round. The singles players will get a break of a day as the men’s and women’s Wheelchair Doubles, along with the Quad wheelchair doubles semifinals, will be played on September 7th. 

On the 8th, the singles players will return for their semifinals which will be followed by the doubles finals on the 9th. The final day of the US Open will also hold the singles finals for men’s and women’s wheelchair and Quad wheelchair singles finals.
