At times, even the best of intentions can take an unforeseen turn. During the tense situation of the ongoing US Open, an attendee’s simple gesture became a moment of awkwardness despite good intentions. While the match was the center of attention at that moment, the focus suddenly shifted towards this incident leaving the spectator stunned. The US Open promises entertainment, and entertained we were.
When it comes to Grand Slams, the organizers pay careful attention to seating arrangements, refreshment rules, and ticket prices to ensure attendees have a one-of-a-kind feeling. The 2024 US Open is no exception to that. The organizers also introduced a new rule allowing spectators to leave their seats during matches. While there was no room for complaints, a spectator still became the victim of a funny moment during an ongoing match yesterday.
A tennis fan shared a clip on X where a spectator brought two Honey Deuce drinks to a woman sitting beside him, likely hoping to spark up a conversation. Sitting after carrying the cups carefully, as the bespectacled man was about to offer a drink to the lady sitting next to him, another person behind his seat beat him to it, and the lady got her drink. This incident left that man stunned for a second, and the camera was quick enough to capture it. “When you buy a drink for the hot girl sitting next to you, but the guy above swoops in and beats you to it,” tweeted the fan.

Although the spectator was not able to share his Honey Deuce, 2.2 million units of the drink have been consumed since its inception in 2005. Last year the American Slam sold a record-earning 450,000 glasses. While the cocktail is made less sour for the attendees of the Slam, its simple yet unique test finds its way to the spectators’ hearts.
The cocktail became the US Open’s signature drink, but it wasn’t always there in the Slam’s culture. Mautone revealed that he was tasked to create an iconic cocktail that could be served in large glasses and that’s how the American Grand Slam found its iconic beverage. In the moment elaborated, the person brought the iconic Honey Deuce for the next person. However, his efforts and the cocktail, although delicious, couldn’t save the day.
