Grigor Dimitrov's emotional wish for the Williams sisters—do you think they still have more to give?

As the US Open looms large on the horizon, tennis players from around the world are fine-tuning their skills, hoping to make their mark on one of the biggest stages in the sport. For Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov, the dream of winning a Grand Slam is undoubtedly at the forefront of his mind. But as he steps onto the courts at Flushing Meadows, there’s another wish that lingers in his heart—a wish that might be just as important as lifting that coveted trophy.

The 2019 US Open semifinalist will be gearing up to rise the ranks at the American hard courts. He will be facing Kyrian Jacquet in the first round of the tournament on Monday. But as he prepares to make a big leap, he desires to see his ‘besties’ Venus and Serena Williams on the US Open courts, supporting and cheering for him in the stands.

Speaking at a pre-tournament conference, the Bulgarian tennis star revealed his desire. “I think I should copy her on the court a little bit more,” he said about Serena Williams. Continuing further, he made a coveted wish. “They are amazing so…I still hope I see them in New York, they are coming at some point so…” Dimitrov’s statements also reflect that the Williams sisters might join the tennis community at the final grand slam of the year. They have appeared in Dimitrov’s matches in the past as well.

Speaking in an interview, Dimitrov said, “She’s amazing. We stay in touch. We nearly speak on a daily basis.” Continuing further, he said, “Actually, I remember she was even here when I had my first top-10 win. It was a very nice moment. I think we both remember that. It’s friendship, man. I think this is the best part.

As the US Open draws near yet again, it would be interesting to see if the Williams sisters make a visit during Dimitrov’s match in the US Open. Can the Bulgarian benefit from this friendly support? Only time will tell.
