Serena Williams inspiring Grigor Dimitrov—Does this prove she's the GOAT on and off the court?

What a nail-biter that was! Grigor Dimitrov pulled off a remarkable victory against Andrey Rublev in a match that kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the fifth set. The tension was palpable, with every point hard-fought and the outcome uncertain until the very end. As Dimitrov navigated the tricky terrain of this intense battle, he wasn’t alone. In the stands, her close friend Serena Williams was in attendance, cheering him on with unwavering support. Dimitrov did not fail to acknowledge her presence after the match.

After edging past Rublev in a five-setter encounter 6-3, 7-6, 1-6, 3-6, 6-3, Dimitrov thanked Williams who was present for the entirety of his match. She was seen enjoying the signature cocktail of the US Open, ‘Honey Deuce’ as she watched one of her closest friends play on the court. In the on-court interview, Dimitrov also reflected upon how he felt playing with Serena’s presence in the stands.

When quizzed if he feels nervous playing in front of legends like Williams, Dimitrov revealed, “She gave me a little pep talk yesterday, yeah. It’s amazing to play here in front of you guys. It’s a tremendous atmosphere .. so thank you so much.” As Dimitrov made these statements, Williams looked ecstatic in the stands. She was immensely happy and proud after Dimitrov hit the winning shot. This, however, was not the first time that the American legend visited Dimitrov during his match.

Williams paid a visit at this year’s Miami Open semi-finals as well. The 42-year-old was spotted sitting in the audience and cheering for Dimitrov as hard as the fans. The Bulgarian cruised into the final of the tournament, defeating Alexander Zverev.

Dimitrov and Williams’ friendship extends far beyond the tennis courts, and this was, in fact, revealed by the Bulgarian player himself. After his match in Miami, Dimitrov revealed that he constantly keeps in touch with Serena. “She’s amazing. We stay in touch. We nearly speak on a daily basis,” he said.

Serena Williams fails to keep another close friend happy at the US Open

Serena Williams’ visit to the US Open was exciting not only for her fans but for the players as well who would have been inspired by the presence of the 23-time Grand Slam champion. Serena was present for a few matches including that of Jannik Sinner, but one of her close friends, who failed to witness her presence, was Caroline Wozniacki, and she wasn’t happy about it.

After defeating Jessika Ponchet in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, the Danish tennis player registered her complaint against Serena, in jest. Speaking in the post-match interview, Wozniacki said, “I’m gonna text her. I’m pretty mad at her for not showing up at my match (laughs). I saw she was watching Tommy. We have to talk about that a bit later.”

But there is still a lot left in the tournament. As the US Open advances to the second week, it will be interesting to see if Serena marks her attendance for more matches, and if Wozniacki’s match is going to be one of them. What do you think?
