US Open Announces Massive Prize Money for Players as They Unveil $60 Million Breakup

Most players have already started their preparations for the US Open, as it is getting closer. Currently, many top-ranked players are taking part in the Cincinnati Masters. In the meantime, the US Open announced news that might excite most players and motivate them further to perform at the highest level.

According to reports, the US Open will award a record amount of prize money for the first time in history.

US Open announces $60 million prize money for 2022 season

Notably, last year the total prize money was around $57.5 million. This year, they have increased it to $60 million, which will be massive for the players, particularly for the qualifiers and first-round players.

According to US Open’s official website, players losing in the first round will get around $80,000. Moreover, the round of 64 players will get $121,000, which has increased massively since the 2016 season.

Interestingly, in other good news for the qualifiers, players playing in the qualifying rounds will get around $6.25 million in total prize money. Additionally, the final round of qualifiers will get $44,000.

Meanwhile, the winner of the US Open will get $2,600,000 and the runner-up will receive $1,300,000. In terms of doubles competition, the winner will receive $688,000 and the runner-up will get a paycheck of $344,000.

It is worth noting that the US Open distributes equal prize money to both men’s and women’s players since 1973, as it became one of the very first Grand Slam tournaments to provide equal prize money.

Players to watch out for in New York

The biggest story right now is Serena Williams, as she will enter the court for the final time in her career at this year’s US Open. Moreover, fans are hoping that Serena goes on a high note by winning her 24th Grand Slam title. Hence, the ticket sales have increased for the first three days, even though the draw is not out yet.

Meanwhile, Serena’s older sister, Venus Williams, has received a wild card entry to the US Open. Venus, 42, is also making her comeback to Flushing Meadows after missing last year and could potentially play her last US Open as well.
